How to add a subdomain in Plesk

Did you know that if our hosting package contains subdomains, we can use them to logically organize the structure of our site?

Furthermore, we can also host additional websites or sections of a website on the same website without paying for registering the additional domain names.

The subdomain is a domain that is part of a larger domain in the DNS hierarchy. For example, support.bobcares.com, and blog.bobcares.com are subdomains of the bobcares.com domain.

Furthermore, subdomains have the same status as the additional domains. Hence, we can use the same set of tools and services for working with subdomains. For instance, Presence Builder, SSL/TLS protection, web statistics, and so on.

We can easily set up a subdomain in Plesk with these steps:

  1. First, head to Websites & Domains.
  2. Then, click Add Subdomain.
  3. Next, enter the following information:
    • Subdomain name box:

Enter the portion of the address that we want to add to the domain name of the main site.

    • Document root box:

Enter the location of the directory where we want to store all files and sub-directories related to this site. We can also use the default directory of the main site.

  4. Finally, click OK.

After the above steps, we will be able to see the new subdomain name in the list at the bottom of the screen.

Plesk also offers the option of creating a wildcard subdomain. This involves using the asterisk (*) symbol as the subdomain name.

In case of website visitors enter a non-existing subdomain name, they are redirected to this wildcard subdomain. Additionally, we can create wildcard subdomains at any domain name level.
