Let’s take a look at how our Support Team is ready to help customers set AWS RDS MySQL timezone.
Can we change AWS RDS MySQL timezone?
All Amazon RDS MYSQL instances use UTC/GMT time by default. Although changing the time zone is optional, some of our customers prefer to do so. Our Support Team would like to point out that sticking to the UTC timezone helps us avoid having to adjust the time according to daylight savings time.
However, if you want to change the AWS RDS MySQL timezone, you have come to the right place.
How to modify AWS RDS MySQL timezone?
According to our skilled AWS Support Techs, changing the AWS RDS timezone depends on the database engine we are using.
If we are using a MySQL database, we can modify the time_zone parameter to get the job done. We can set the parameter in our database instance’s parameter group to one of the supported values seen below:

Our AWS Support Techs would like to point out that after setting the AWS RDS timezone, all new connections to the database will reflect the new change.
Furthermore, if we have any open connections to the database during the modification, we will see the new changes come into effect only after closing the connection and opening a new one.
Moreover, we also have the option of setting a different time zone for a database instance and its read replicas. This involves using a different parameter group for the database instance and replicas and setting the time_zone parameter for each parameter group as per our requirements.
It is important to note that when we restore a database instance from a snapshot, the time zone is set to UTC by default. After the restore process is complete, we must re-set the AWS RDS timezone.
