Ceph Dashboard manages and monitors cluster health, hosts, Cluster logs, etc of the Ceph cluster.

At Bobcares, we often get requests regarding ceph, as a part of our Server Management services.

Today, let’s see how our Support Engineers enable the ceph MGR module for our customers.

Ceph dashboard – here, the dashboard is implemented as a Ceph Manager module.

MGR – The Ceph manager software, it collects all the state from the whole cluster in a single place.

The dashboard manages and monitors the ceph resources and components like cluster health, logs, etc.

Multiple user’s accounts having different permissions are supported by the dashboard.

How we enable the ceph MGR module?

Recently, one of our customers approached us saying that he installed Ceph Nautilus, but he was getting an error when trying to enable the MGR dashboard.

Today, let’s see how our Support Engineers help him to fix this error and enable the Ceph dashboard.

Firstly, we checked and confirmed that the customer installed Ceph Nautilus properly.

Then, we ran the following command for enabling the dashboard.

ceph mgr module enable dashboard

Next, we created a self-signed certificate. We used the commands as shown in the screenshot for creating the certificate.

Then we created a user for the Dashboard by running the command.

ceph dashboard ac-user-create (username) (password) administrator

Our Engineers checked and found that the port was not open, so they opened the port as shown in the below screenshot.

ceph MGR module enable dashboard

Then, we opened the ceph dashboard URL and entered the user name and password.

https://X.X.X.X:8443

Finally, we enabled the dashboard for the customer successfully as per his request.
