cPanel Exclude Domain from AutoSSL

Securing websites with SSL certificates plays a huge role in online security. This is where cPanel comes in handy. It offers a feature called AutoSSL to automate this process. However, sometimes we may want to exclude a domain from this automatic SSL certificate installation.

cPanel Exclude Domain from AutoSSL

Today, we will take a look at how to disable AutoSSL for a specific domain in our cPanel account.

By default, cPanel comes with the Comodo AutoSSL provider. To add Let’s Encrypt AutoSSL provider, we have to log in to our server via SSH as a root user and run this command:

# /scripts/install_lets_encrypt_autossl_provider

Domain-Specific AutoSSL Exclusion

When we enable AutoSSL for a cPanel account, it regularly checks the SSL certificates for all domains associated with that account every 24 hours. We can exclude a specific domain from this process with these steps:

  1. To begin with, make sure cPanel software is up to date by checking the version using:

    # cat /usr/local/cpanel/version

In case we are not using the latest version, we can update it with:

    # /scripts/upcp

  2. Then, log in to cPanel.
  3. Now, head to Security under Home and select SSL/TLS Status.
  4. Here, we have to enable the domain that we want to exclude from AutoSSL.
  5. Next, click the “Exclude Domains from AutoSSL” button.

According to our experts, we need to uninstall the SSL certificate associated with the domain before we go ahead with excluding it from AutoSSL. We can uninstall the SSL Certificate with these steps:

  1. First, log in to cPanel.
  2. Then, head to Security under Home and select SSL/TLS.
  3. Next, click “Manage SSL sites.”
  4. No, choose the domain for which we want to disable SSL and click “Uninstall.”

Customizing our AutoSSL settings in cPanel offers us more control over SSL certificate installations, especially when dealing with multiple domains under a single account.
