Kemp Load Balancer Proxmox

Kemp LoadMaster is an application delivery controller. It is a load balancer solution that helps distribute incoming network traffic across multiple servers or VMs to ensure high availability and optimal performance.

Kemp Load Balancer Proxmox

Today, we are going to take a look at how to use Kemp LoadMaster as a load balancer in a Proxmox Virtual Environment.
Before we begin, we need to download the Kemp LoadMaster Virtual LoadMaster (VLM) image from the Kemp website.

Furthermore, we need a Proxmox host ready to deploy the Kemp VLM.

How to use Kemp LoadMaster as a Load Balancer

  1. First, we have to go to the Proxmox web interface and head to the “Datacenter” view.
  2. Then, select the node where we want to run the Kemp VLM.
  3. Next, click “Storage” and choose the storage where we want to upload the VLM image, and then click “Upload”.
  4. Now, click on the node where we uploaded the VLM image and click “Create VM”. Then, we must follow the steps to create a new VM for Kemp VLM.

Remember to select the uploaded Kemp VLM image as the OS template during the VM creation.

  5. Now, it is time to edit the VM’s settings to configure the network. We need to have at least two network interfaces attached to the Kemp VLM VM. One for management and one for the load-balanced traffic. Additionally, assign IP addresses to these interfaces according to our network setup.
  6. Then, start the Kemp VLM VM.
  7. After that, head to the Kemp VLM’s interface by going to its IP address in a web browser. We can follow the steps in the configuration wizard to set up the parameters.
  8. Next, it is time to create and configure Virtual Services to distribute traffic. This includes setting the backend servers’ IP addresses and ports and configuring the load balancing algorithm as well.
  9. After that, update the DNS to point to the virtual IP address assigned to the Kemp Virtual Service. This will be the entry point for incoming traffic which is then then distributed by the Kemp LoadMaster to the backend servers.
  10. Finally, we have to monitor the load-balanced services using the Kemp VLM management interface. Furthermore, we can adjust settings as needed.
