Connecting to Google cloud SQL from pgAdmin
The main steps involved in connecting to Google cloud SQL from pgAdmin are the following:
- Configure GCP and create a database instance in GCP.
- Install PgAdmin on the remote computer.
- Connect to GCP Database Instance from PgAdmin.
Step 1
In order to configure GCP and create a GCP database instance, follow the below steps:
- Firstly, access GCP with the credentials.
- Now click on “console”. Soon the console will appear.
- Click the hamburger icon in the upper left corner, then “SQL” in the left nav bar.
- On the loading page, create the “Create Instance” button.
- Now choose “PostgreSQL”.
- Now, on the new page, enter the preferred name for the instance and set the password. Also, keep the password in mind. By default, the password is for the user “Postgres.” It may take a little while for the creation process to complete.
Step 2
In order to install pgAdmin, navigate to the pgAdmin official site and download pgAdmin compatible with the system OS.
Step 3
- Firstly, on the system, open pgAdmin.
- Now click on Servers → Create → Server
- Give this new connection a name. Any preferred name can be used. To complete the process, we have to provide either the Hostname, Address, or Service.
- So click on “SQL” to see the instance details. Note the hostname OR IP Address & password from GCP.
- Now add the instance IP address and the password( which is noted while creating the instance) and click “save”.
- Now an error message prompt will appear. To fix it, find the IP address.
- Then navigate back to GCP and click on the instance → connections.
- Then click “add network,” which will bring up a form where we can enter the local computer’s IP address in the specified text field. Names are optional. When finished, click “save.”
- Now go back to the PgAdmin on the computer and try connecting again.
- The connection is established successfully. Now we can create databases, tables, etc using the PgAdmin tool.
