by | Jan 2, 2020

Are you stuck with VPS SSH/ping error? We can help you fix it.

Usually, this troublesome error occurs mainly when the public IP does not have a MAC address.

At Bobcares, we often receive requests to solve these errors as a part of our Server Management Services.

Today, let’s have a deep look at this error and see how our Support Engineers fix it for our customers.

How VPS SSH/ping error occurs?

Firstly, let’s have a detailed look at the error. Usually, ping error occurs mainly due to congestion or interference on the data routes.

Recently, one of our customers approached us with an SSH ping error. He was not able to access a VPS created in virtualizor using KVM.

And, the VPS was using public IP from OVH. He tried to ping to the VPS but failed.

After many failed attempts, he tried to ping outside from VPS. Unfortunately, it also failed.

Our Support Engineers checked the error in detail and found some errors in the connections with the server.

How we fix the ping error?

So far we’ve discussed the error, now let’s see how we resolve it easily. Our Support Engineers tried to ping from VNC but failed.

The server was been isolated without having any connections to and from it. This error occurred mainly because the public IP does not have a MAC address.

To resolve this error, we followed the below steps.

  1. Firstly, we logged in to the OVHcloud Control Panel and created Virtual MAC for public IP.
  2. Then, we assigned the created Virtual MAC to that IP in the Virtualizor.
  3. Finally, we rebuilt the VPS.

Also, to fix this error for all IPs in the Virtualizor IP pool, we need to create Virtual MAC in OVH for all those IPs.

And, then assign the created Virtual MAC to corresponding IPs in the IP pool of Virtualizor.

If a VPS is already present with that IP, we need to rebuild that VPS to resolve the error.

Similarly, if that IP is currently not used by any VPS, we can simply create a new VPS and it will load without this error.
