How to Deploy Next js to cPanel

Are you ready to deploy a Next.js application using cPanel with a little help from our experts?

How to Deploy Next js to cPanel

  1. To begin with, we have to set up a custom Next.js server. So, create a `server.js` file in our project’s root directory and add the required code. Here’s a look at what our `server.js` might look like:

    const { createServer } = require('http')
    const { parse } = require('url')
    const next = require('next')
    const dev = process.env.NODE_ENV !== 'production'
    const hostname = 'localhost'
    const port = 3000
    const app = next({ dev, hostname, port })
    const handle = app.getRequestHandler()
    app.prepare().then(() => {
    createServer(async (req, res) => {
    try {
    const parsedUrl = parse(req.url, true)
    const { pathname, query } = parsedUrl
    if (pathname === '/a') {
    await app.render(req, res, '/a', query)
    } else if (pathname === '/b') {
    await app.render(req, res, '/b', query)
    } else {
    await handle(req, res, parsedUrl)
    }
    } catch (err) {
    console.error('Error occurred handling', req.url, err)
    res.statusCode = 500
    res.end('internal server error')
    }
    })
    .once('error', (err) => {
    console.error(err)
    process.exit(1)
    })
    .listen(port, () => {
    console.log(`> Ready on http://${hostname}:${port}`)
    })
    })

  2. Then, edit the project’s `package.json` file to set the environment to production on the start script. This script should run the `server.js` file we created in the previous step.
  3. At this point, we have to build our Next.js application. This is done by running the `npm run build` or `yarn run build` command in the terminal.
  4. Next, open the Next.js project in the file manager. If we can’t see hidden files, we can enable visibility in our file manager settings.
  5. Then, log in to the cPanel web hosting and upload and extract the ZIP file with our Next.js project files to the domain name’s root folder.

Now, head to the Software section of cPanel and click “Setup Node.js App”. Then, click the “+ Create Application” button and follow the setup instructions. Once everything is in place, click on “CREATE.” Our Next.js app will automatically start, and we are good to go.
