Almalinux to Cloudlinux: How to convert?

by | Nov 4, 2022

Let us take a closer look at how to convert Almalinux to Cloudlinux. With the support of our Server management support services, we can go through all of the setup steps.

Converting the servers: Almalinux to Cloudlinux

almalinux to cloudlinux

We can convert the current CentOS or AlmaLinux server to CloudLinux OS Shared. The procedure just takes a few minutes and replaces a few RPMs.  Get an activation_keyby signing up.

  •  Firstly, get the script to change and install, by using the following commands:

    $ wget https://repo.cloudlinux.com/cloudlinux/sources/cln/cldeploy
    $ sh cldeploy -k activation_key

  • After that, we have an IP-based license. In this instance, we have to execute the following command:

    $ sh cldeploy -i

  • If no issues occur during the change, restart the server by issuing the following command:

    $ reboot

  • The server should now be operating with the CloudLinux OS LVE kernel when we reboot. We can check the booting kernel with the following command:

    $ uname -r

CLDeploy Explained: Almalinux to Cloudlinux

If we execute the cldeploy script to remove CloudLinux, it will carry out the following:

  • Restores the CentOS/AlmaLinux store and the:

almalinux-release/centos-release/release-notes/logos.

  • Removes the packages:

lve, mod hostinglimits, lve-stats, and lvemanager .

  • Finally, It will delete the mod hostinglimits RPM.

Activation: Getting a trial license

To convert the Almalinux to Cloudlinux, we will require a trial key.  After that follow the steps given below to get the key:

  • Sign up for the CloudLinux Network. We will get a link to turn it on through email. Sign in at:

    https://cln.cloudlinux.com/console/auth/login.

  • After that, press the Get Trial Activation Key. We will get a key that looks like this:

12314-d34463a182fede4f4d7e140f1841bcf2.

  • Use it to register the system or convert it to a CloudLinux OS Shared server.

Activate the License

This is the next step to convert Almalinux to Cloudlinux. Use the command to register the CloudLinux OS Shared server to the network using the key:

$ yum install rhn-setup --enablerepo=cloudlinux-base
$ /usr/sbin/rhnreg_ks --activationkey=activation key

Where the key is similar to : 1231-2b48feedf5b5a0e0609ae028d9275c93,

Use the clnreg_ks command if we have an IP-based license:

$ yum install rhn-setup --enablerepo=cloudlinux-base
$ /usr/sbin/clnreg_ks --force

Run the following command to register the CloudLinux OS Shared 8 server with CloudLinux Network using the Activation Key:

$ yum install rhn-setup --enablerepo=cloudlinux-BaseOS
$ /usr/sbin/rhnreg_ks --activationkey=activation key

Where activation key is like 1231-2b48feedf5b5a0e0609ae028d9275c93

Consider that we have IP based license. So in this case use the clnreg_ks command:

$ yum install rhn-setup --enablerepo=cloudlinux-BaseOS
$ /usr/sbin/clnreg_ks --force

Installing new servers

We can get the latest CloudLinux OS Share ISO and use it to install CloudLinux OS Shared on the server.
