How we can fix the “Can’t apply patch” error in Plesk?

When we run the command freshclam on Plesk, we may sometimes see the below error:

Can't apply patch error in plesk

The reason for the error is the absence of a ClamAV database in /var/lib/clamav.

We can fix this error easily by using the below steps:

  1. Firstly, We use SSH to connect to the server.
  2. Then find the available databases.
    # ls -la /var/lib/clamav/*.cvd

    bytecode.cvd
    daily.cvd
    main.cvd

  3. By using the native ClamAV utility, we must then download the missing database.
    # freshclam
  4. If the database is still missing and the ClamAV shows the error, then download the absent file from the official site of the ClamAV utility.
  5. Then upload the file to the server.
  6. lastly, configure the required permissions.

When downloading the database with the wget utility, an error 403 may occur. If it does, try first downloading the database to the personal machine before uploading it to the server, by using an FTP client.
