All about Could not issue a Let’s Encrypt certificate error in Plesk

According to our Support Team, this specific error prevents the issue of a Let’s Encrypt certificate in Plesk. We get the following error message in this scenario:

Error: Could not issue a Let's Encrypt SSL/TLS certificate for example.com
The example.com DNS zone contains an AAAA record, but the domain is not assigned an IPv6 address in Plesk.
To resolve the issue, either assign an IPv6 address to example.com ("Websites & Domains" > "Web Hosting Access") or remove the AAAA record from the example.com DNS zone.

Could not issue a Let's Encrypt certificate error in Plesk

In some situations, the error also causes the Domain or Plesk to resolve to an Ipv6 address as seen below:

# dig @8.8.8.8 +short -t AAAA example.com
2001:db8:f61:a1ff:0:0:0:80

In fact, this error is due to resolving the domain not being assigned or having an Ipv6 in Plesk.

Fortunately, our skilled Support Techs have come up with a way to resolve the issue. We have to remove the AAAA record from the domain or Plesk DNS zone.

In case the issue is with the domain, we have to assign an Ipv6 as seen below:

  • First, we have to log in to Plesk GUI.
  • Then we will navigate to Web Hosting Access under example.com in the Domains section and assign an Ipv6 to the domain.

However, if the issue is with Plesk, we will add an Ipv6 with these steps:

  • First, we will log in to Plesk GUI.
  • Then we have to head to IP Addresses under Tools & Settings section and add an Ipv6.
