Failed EPSV attempt Disabling EPSV error in Plesk

The “Disabling EPSV” error is often seen if there has been a recent upgrade to Obsidina 18.0.33 version. In fact, this specific error pops up when attempting to add the remote FTP backup storage or creating a backup to the remote FTP storage via Plesk > Tools & Settings > Backup Manager > Remote Storage Settings

. It results in the following error message:

Transport error: unable to list directory: Curl error: (7) Couldn't connect to server: Last FTP request: PASV Last FTP response: 227 Entering Passive Mode
Make sure you have entered the correct storage settings. You can check them independently with the command: curl -v -P - -u jdoe 'ftp://203.0.113.2/'

.

It also causes the manual connection to the remote FTP backup storage on the server-side to fail during a switch from EPSV to PASV mode as seen below:

# curl -v -P - -u johndoe 'ftp://203.0.113.2/'
> EPSV
* Connect data stream passively
* ftp_perform ends with SECONDARY: 0
< 502 command not implemented
* Failed EPSV attempt. Disabling EPSV
> PASV

Our Support Engineers infer the error to be due to #PPPM-12699, product issue. This has been resolved in Plesk Obsidian 09 March 2021.

Our Support Techs are here with a workaround for the error, to help you put:

  1. First, we have to upgrade Plesk to the 18.0034 version for this workaround to succeed.
  2. Next, we will log in to Plesk.
  3. Then, we have to navigate to Extensions > My Extensions > Panel.ini Editor > Open > Editor.Our Support Engineers would like to point that we may have to install Panel.ini Editor extension in case it is missing.
  4. After that we will add the following line under the [pmm] section:
     ftpAllowPassiveIpChange = 1
  5. Finally, we have to scroll down and click the Save button to allow the changes to take effect.
