Litespeed cache Image Optimization | All About

Image optimization is a popular way to reduce the size of mages while transmitting them over the internet. In other words, smaller images translate to faster transmissions.Litespeed cache Image Optimization | All About

The LiteSpeed Cache plugin offers image optimization services on a central web server. Let’s take a quick look at how it works:

  1. First, we have to head to the Image Optimization page and click the Send Optimization Request button.
  2. Then, the central server will either deny or accept the request after callback verification.
  3. Next, the central server will distribute the task to a child server.
  4. After that, the child server will fetch our image and process it.
  5. Then, the child server informs WordPress that the images are ready.
  6. Finally, the images are pulled back into WordPress by a cron job.

In the process, three versions of each image file is generated:

  • ourimage.bk.jpg: This is the image’s original version.
  • ourimage.jpg: This is an optimized version of the image. This will be displayed on our site from now on.
  • ourimage.jpg.webp: This is a version of the original image saved in a format 25%-34% smaller than JPG.

Our experts would like to point out that if the ourimage.jpg cannot be optimized due to any reason, there will not be an ourimage.bk.jpg either.

How to use Image Optimization on a WordPress Site

  1. First, head to Media under Settings in the LiteSpeed Cache tab in the WordPress dashboard.
  2. Then enable the Disable Optimization Pull and Image WebP Replacement options.

Additionally, since all browsers do not support WebP, the pages in the cache will have two versions, one with WebP images and other image formats. We can also opt to turn off WebP in the settings at any point in time.
