Proxmox Digital Ocean, find out more from our in-house experts.

At Bobcares, we offer solutions for every query, big and small, as a part of our Proxmox Support Services.

Let’s take a look at how our Proxmox Support Team is ready to help customers with Proxmox Digital Ocean.

What is Proxmox Digital Ocean

Proxmox is a platform for enterprise virtualization. It is responsible for integrating Linux Containers, and the KVM hypervisor on a single platform. In fact, Proxmox offers us a friendly user interface to manage Virtual Machines and containers as well as high availability for clusters. It also allows us to manage disaster recovery tools easily.

Proxmox Digital Ocean

However, we cannot install any distribution we prefer due to Digital Ocean. So this disallows us from installing it from a Proxmox ISO. Fortunately, our Support Techs have a solution for installing Proxmox Digital Ocean. It involves installing Proxmox on top of Debian Jessie.

  1. First, open the /etc/hosts file and replace 127.0.1.1 with our external IP.

    We have to make sure that the hostname is resolvable.

    For instance, if the IP address is 92.168.15.25, and the hostname is ourhostname, then the /etc/hosts file will look like this:

    127.0.0.1       localhost.localdomain localhost
    192.168.15.25   ourhostname.proxmox.com ourhostname pvelocalhost

    ::1     localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
    ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
    ff02::2 ip6-allrouter

    We can test if the setup is in order with the following command:

    hostname –ip-address

    It will return our IP address if everything is in place.

  2. Next, we have to run the following commands in order to install Proxmox Digital Ocean:
    /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pve-install-repo.list
    wget -O- "http://download.proxmox.com/debian/key.asc" | apt-key add -
    apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
    apt-get install proxmox-ve ntp ssh postfix ksm-control-daemon open-iscsi openvswitch-switch
  3. Then we have to configure postfix by choosing the local-only postfix server and then reboot.
  4. Now we can log in to the web admin page via https://your-ip:8006/.

By now we will be able to log in and look around. Once we configure a local storage location, we will be able to download templates as well.
