DigitalOcean move droplet to team with ease

Want to move the DigitalOcean Droplet to another team? We can help you with moving it.

We cannot move the Droplet directly to another team instead we need to do it with the Droplet snapshot.

At Bobcares, we often receive requests to move Droplet to a different team as a part of our DigitalOcean Managed Services.

Today, let’s discuss how our Support Engineers help our customers move a DigitalOcean Droplet to a team.

Move DigitalOcean droplet to team

We cannot move a Droplet from one team to another as it is from one account.

We can transfer the snapshot of the Droplet to another. Thus we take a snapshot of the Droplet and transfer the snapshot to another team.

Then we create the Droplet with the Snapshot.

Let’s discuss how our Support Engineers help our customers move the Droplet to another team.

 

How we transfer the Droplet to another account

Recently one of the customers contacted us to transfer the Droplet to another team. Let’s discuss how our Support Engineers do it.

 

Create and transfer a snapshot of the Droplet

First we login to the DigitalOcean control panel.

In the left pane, we click on Images.

Under the Snapshot tab, Click on Choose a Droplet or volume. Then we enter a name for the Snapshot.

Finally, Click on Take Snapshot.

After a few minutes Snapshot will be created and under Snapshots newly taken Snapshot will be present.

Next, we need to transfer the Snapshot. In the Snapshot, we click on More.

Now a drop-down appears we click on Change Owner.

We enter the user’s email address or we select the team from the drop-down.

Thus we select the recipient we click on Transfer Snapshot.

Once we initiate the transfer the menu changes to Snapshot Transfer Pending and option changes to Cancel Transfer.

Note: Once the transfer is accepted the Snapshot will be transferred and completely removed from this account.

 

Accepting a Snapshot and creating a Droplet

A notification will not be sent to the mail account or control panel. We manually need to check if a Snapshot transfer is received.

Thus to accept the transfer request, we login to the team we are transferring the snapshot.

We click on Images in the left pane and click on the Snapshot tab.

In Pending Snapshot Transfer Requests in the Snapshot, we click on More then click on Accept.

Now it will be moved to Snapshots. Then we click on More in the Snapshot and click on Create Droplet.

Thus a Droplet will be created.
