Once the SSH user and key are configured within Atomic, you are now ready to configure the WinSCP client to transfer files over SFTP. Here’s how to do it:

  • First, launch WinSCP then inside the Site Manager window >> select New Site.
  • Next inside your new site configuration, locate the File Protocol drop-down and select SFTP.
  • Next, you will get to set the Host details field to the domain that’s pointing to your WordPress site. Add the Hostname as your server name where the domain pointed
  • By default, the Port Number field will be 22, if there is no data added then you can update the port number to 22.
  • Now in the User Name field, enter the username of the SSH user that you created in your cPanel session.
  • Next, we have to configure authentication via the SSH key. Click on the “Advanced”.
  • Similarly inside the Advanced Site Settings window, locate the SSH section and click on “Authentication to view SSH settings.
  • To set your connection to use your SSH private key for authentication, select Attempt authentication using Pageant, Attempt ‘Keyboard-interactive’ authentication from Authentication options, and choose Respond with the password to the first prompt.
  • Later, locate the Private Key File field and select your SSH private key that you’ve previously generated and associated with your SSH user. Next press the “OK” button.
  • Now confirm the data added and select the “Save” button.
  • Finally, test the connection by clicking the “Login” button.
